Green Building Forefront

Skyridge is Squamish’s largest Built Green® community and to continue with our pioneering environmental efforts, we are pleased to offer Skyridge townhouse owners the option of an electrical car charger circuitry and a 240V receptacle in their private garage. Developing and building on the forefront of the green movement has its challenges and in order to accomplish this goal we would like to offer our townhome owners a special one off option.

Electric Car Charging 101

There’s no doubt about it — electric car charging is different from fueling a car with gasoline. On the whole, it’s much more convenient to charge an electric car — you get home, you spend 2–3 seconds plugging in, you go on with your day or night, and you spend 2–3 seconds unplugging when you are ready to drive somewhere again. You may have started to see electric charging stations around town and now you can add the convenience of an electric charging station right inside your garage.

Home Charging Station

~95% of electric car charging is done at home. There are a couple of common ways to charge your car at home. One is to simply plug into a standard electricity outlet. All electric cars have what is termed an “onboard charger” in the car itself. So, all you need is to use the charging cord you get with your car to connect your car to a source of electricity.  Although if you want to charge faster, you probably want a home “Electric Vehicle Service Equipment”, also known as a  EVSE.

What’s An EVSE?

An EVSE is generally referred to as a “home charger”, “wall charger”, or “home charging station.” Though in truth,  an EVSE is any device which brings AC power to your car where it is then turned into DC power and charge your car’s battery — via the car’s onboard charger. There are a variety of solutions with various types of cords + boxes that can be used to charge your car. There are numerous EVSEs on the market and most will work with the infrastructure provided at Skyridge.

Note – Skyridge is not supplying EVSE’s which can be specific to individual cars.  Rather, we are providing the circuitry and 240V for you to plug directly into the wall with the car’s own adapter and the ability for owners to connect their own EVSE’s.

In order to serve the high demand for electricity in each unit with the car charger receptacle, a furnace must also be installed in the unit to balance the load.

Skyridge is pleased to offer its townhome homeowners the most innovative products in energy efficiency to stay current with consumer demands.
